Fall/Early Winter CSA

A CSA is an agreement where people purchase a “share” in the farm for the season and receive a box of veggies each week for a certain number of weeks.

We have been growing through the winter to supply winter farmers' markets that we have attended for the last 7 years. While we are definately not experts we do have a good idea of how to grow greens and other cold hardy vegetables through the winter by using high tunnels, low tunnels and a minimally heated greenhouse. It's all in the timing of the planting. Most things need to reach almost full size when we are heading into November because our light in the Northeast decreases so much that we cannot count on the plants growing much more than they have once we reach November.

These are the items that we grow through the winter using very minimal heat and sometimes no supplemental heat.

  • salad mix
  • asian braising greens mix
  • baby bok choi
  • tat soi
  • spinach
  • cilantro
  • arugula
  • baby lettuce mix
  • 5 different types of radishes
  • 2 types of turnips
  • scallions
  • head lettuce
  • kale
  • brussel sprouts

These are the following storage items we include in the share

  • 5lbs of potatoes every other week
  • winter squash: spaghetti, acorn, butternut, buttercup, delicata, hubbard
  • rudibega
  • purple top turnip
  • carrots
  • beets
  • diakon radish
  • storage cabbage
  • parsnips

  • We will be offering an add option fruit for this fall/early winter season, apples and pears. We have a partnership with Rogers Orchard in Southington to sell their fruit throughout the summer season. This winter we are happy to offer a variety of their apples for the 10 weeks and their pears as long as they are available. Cost for add on is $130. Add on is contingent upon enough interest
  • Because of the nature of a late fall and early winter CSA we are only offering one size share. We realize that this may be small for some people, so each week you are free to " pre-order" more of any item that is available that week at a CSA member price. This will be packed in with your share and can be paid for upon pickup.
